Abattoir Switch - At a Glance
To recap: The Abattoir Pilot
The Abattoir Pilot took place on the 2nd March 2021, when the ScotBeef plant at Bridge of Allan was switched over and their movement and death data from this date was sent directly to ScotEID. ScotEID then extracts the data and sends to CTS via the CTS web service.
Apart from a few tweaks and some more robust handling for CTS web service responses, the pilot has been very successful. The data captured represents 20% of the Scottish abattoir data in which we receive the farm to abattoir move of every animal presented to the abattoir and the recording of its death.
The Abattoir Switch on June 7th 2021
Six of the remaining abattoirs switch to feed their data direct to ScotEID for their cattle recording.
The Six abattoirs switching over are:
- Highland Meats Ltd - 69/216/8000 (new to ScotEID)
- Woodhead Bros (Turriff) - 66/083/8000
- Sandyford Abattoir - 90/725/8004
- Wishaw Abattoir - 83/546/8500
- Dingwall Abattoir (Munro's) - 91/740/8500
- Shotts Abattoir - 83/548/8500
AMENDMENT - to 7th June 2021 List of Abattoir
5 of the abattoirs are not switching on the 7th June 2021 as planned. These are
- ABP (Perth) - 89/705/8500 (new to ScotEID)
- McIntosh Donald Ltd - 80/471/8000
- Scotbeef (Inverurie) - 66/062/8004
- Heathfield Abattoir (Ayr) (Stoddarts)
- Miller (Grantown on Spey) - 85/586/8500
These abattoirs are now switching on the 21st June. This introduces 3 abattoirs new to ScotEID because they only process cattle and have not worked with us before.
CTSOnline Read only access
Abattoirs that have switched over to feed their data direct to ScotEID are provided with a CTSOnline Read Only access for the purpose of looking up the movement history of animals from England and Wales moving directly to the abattoir.
AMENDMENT - 4th June 2021
BCMS are not changing the abattoir CTSOnline accounts for those that have switched over to ‘Read Only’. Unfortunately this means that it is possible for them to use CTSOnline to update CTS directly and not to ScotEID. Please discourage this from happening where ever possible.
BCMS are not closing the SIS accounts of the abattoirs that have switched over. This means that the abattoirs could accidentally send SIS files directly to BCMS. If you think this may have happened in error please drop an email to support@scoteid.com.
The Remaining Abattoirs
The remaining abattoirs will continue to use CTSOnline for their cattle recording until the Keeper Switch Over in September. They will switch over to use ScotEID online at the same time as the cattle keepers and those using farm management software providers.
The remaining abattoirs are:
- Lockerbie Abattoir - 75/319/8005
- Shetland Abattoir - 94/875/8011
- Mull Slaughterhouse Ltd. - 68/166/8000
- Stornoway Abattoir - 91/755/8500
- Islay Abattoir - 68/149/8005
- Barra Slaughterhouse - 79/443/8001.
Abattoir Processes
The processes we set up for the abattoir pilot have been amended slightly for the abattoir switch. These are:
- Abattoir Call / Contact to Help
- Switch Over Amendment Process for Abattoirs and Markets until Keeper Switch
- Handling Requests from BCMS
Calls from Abattoirs
For those that have switched over on June 7th, for their cattle data, all queries are handled and managed by us. If they call BCMS they will be redirected to ScotEID.
If a keeper contacts BCMS in relation to abattoir recorded data on his account, BCMS will contact us if the data requires amendment and we will liaise with the abattoir.
Amending Abattoir recorded data
Until the Keeper Switch Over, amendments required to abattoir data will be carried out by Support on request from Help or Request depending on the source of the request.
Viewing Abattoir data
Abattoir data can be viewed under ScotMoves+ in the ScotMoves menu. (Link provided separately.).
This shows by abattoir, all movements and deaths recorded. Movements are grouped by the arrival date at the abattoir and deaths by the date of death.
BCMS require the Meat Hygiene Stamp to be used
When we send the abattoir data to BCMS via the CTS web service after it has been captured on ScotEID we have to convert the abattoir CPH to the Meat Hygiene Stamp(MHS). I’ll put the BCMS confirmed MHSs’ up on the trello board for the abattoirs when they come back with them.
If you require to look up abattoir data on BCMS please remember to use the MHS instead of the CPH where you would normally enter a CPH.
